So I was just kinda trolling around (in a fishing sense, not a Usenet sense), looking at job sites. I still hadn't updated my resumé, but no reason not to look, right? Anyway, I've been kinda scared to start working on things--what if I couldn't find anything? Anyway, so I'm looking on Monster and I decided to check "publishing," just for the hell of it.

Wizards of the Coast has a listing for an Editorial Assistant. They're looking for someone with at minimum six months clerical experience (which I have) and a college degree in English, Journalism or History. Ability to read and write. Similar things.

This is a dream job. I have wanted to work in publishing, and SF/F publishing specifically, for...well, decades now. And hell, I play some WoTC products--specifically D&D. (You know I mentioned that in my cover letter!) And I'm qualified. I mean, well, obviously anyone with real publishing experience is more qualified than I am, but still. I'll admit, I gushed in my cover letter about how much I'd love the job.

Hey, if nothing else, it got me to update my resumé! (And yeah, I'll probably need people to look at it eventually...Amythyst said it was fine, but this was kind of a last-minute, panic thing on my part!) I have almost no illusions about getting this job, but I can hope, right?
So. My grades are all in. As expected, I got a 4.0 in Vikings, no real surprise. Dinosaurs, however, did surprise me. I suspect there was a large curve involved as I got a 4.0. I did not earn a 4.0, but I'll take it.

Those grades came in yesterday. I also got an e-mail from my prof, sent out to our entire class. He basically told us how happy he'd been and blah blah blah. And then he gave us all a grade breakdown. As in, "4 people got 4.0s, 2 people got 3.9s," etc. This, as you might imagine, drove me up a wall. As I told my mother, "Even when he's not my teacher anymore, he can still stress me out with a damn e-mail!" Additionally, I don't think telling us a grade breakdown at this point is all that ethical. But, honestly, he's a pretty sh1tty teacher anyway, all things considered.

So, I spent the better part of the past day and a half checking my damn grades every ten minutes. Technically, they weren't supposed to be posted until Wednesday, but I figured if the other two grades had shown up....

So. Tonight the grade showed up. Now, the way the history dept. treats this two quarter seminar is they don't give you a grade for the first quarter until you complete the second. My prof hadn't realized this, so he basically told us what grade we would have gotten at the end of Autumn quarter. He was going to give me a 3.7. So, I was sitting here wondering how he'd make a final grade; would he average things, just assign a grade for both or have one grade for one quarter and a different grade for the other, both based on the work completed? Well, er, at this point I'm really none the wiser, because I got a 3.8 for each quarter. I'm choosing to believe the averaging theory, which would mean I'd have gotten a 3.9 on my thesis. But really, it doesn't matter, right?

So, all As again. And I'm leaving the University of Washington with a cumulative GPA of 3.78. If it wasn't for that damn Latin class, it might be up to a 3.9, but a 3.78 satisfies me quite nicely. :-)

And now, we're done. Bye-bye school. Unless folks want to know when I get my thesis back with comments or something.
