Livin' la vida Massachusetts
May. 2nd, 2005 09:02 pmYes, I am in MA and have been for a few days. The entire trip (and it's been very brief) was for LadyArren's wedding, which was today. Today also happens to be my birthday, so the experience has been sllllllightly surreal. In fact, the whole trip has. I haven't had much spare time, but yesterday Aelana and I went walking around downtown Amherst, which has changed a bit but remains just enough the same to be very comforting. (Hey, Spoo--I pointed out the historical significance of Collective Copies. Remember those halcyon UpComing days?) Gratifyingly, Valley Books was still there and, yes, I went in and bought two used books. Very cheap paperbacks. (T.H. White wrote an SF novel? Who knew? I had to check it out!) But I'm here for such a short time, I don't really have any time to hang out or go exploring or anything. So it all feels a little unreal--I can't believe I'm actually here, y'know? And to add a bit to that, LadyArren now lives in her grandparents' old house, which I haven't been in for...many years. Obviously, she's changed a lot, so it's familliar, but also completely unfamilliar. Just...weird.
But, I hasten to add, in a good way! It's been wonderful being back in Western Mass. It feels nice to come "home," albeit briefly. I'd love to come for a longer visit, though I don't see that happening for a few more years.
So. I must let the people who have not had a chance to meet him that I thoroughly approve of LA's new husband, whose livejournal name I cannot remember the correct spelling of! He's a good person and, far more importantly, he can handle her. ;-) There's a lot of give and take there, believe me! He also has a pretty encompassing family (including "honorary members") who all seem very nice.
I should say stuff about the wedding. ( cut for those who, er, don't care so much )
Well, that's about it, except for thanking Spoomeister and PinkyKi once again for making this entire weekend possible and for giving me a very memorable birthday. Thanks guys!
