The sociopolitical and linguistic ramifications are staggering!

Oh my, is this funny. Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky provide a DVD commentary for the Extended edition of the Return of the King. Here's part two, part three and part four. I suppose I should say there are spoilers for the extended edition here. If you don't know what the new scenes are (I haven't seen it, but I already knew) and don't want to know, well, this gives them away.

It is howlingly funny and pretty much gets their voices both down perfectly. I wanted to choose a little excerpt to run here, but it's just all so good. :-)

I am: James Tiptree, Jr. (Alice B. Sheldon) In the 1970s she was perhaps the most memorable, and one of the most popular, short story writers. Her real life was as fantastic as her fiction.

Which science fiction writer are you?

I don't normally do these, but I figured why not. Amusingly, she's not my favorite as a reader or my model as a writer, but I do like her stuff a lot and admire her work. So, there you go. :-)

And yes, work (or not so much work) has driven me to this. ;-)
