Y'know....

May. 31st, 2005 12:34 pm
I'm starting to really wish I had gradu-eloped.

Had a great time at Ketina and Ronelyn's yesterday, hanging out, grilling meat, playing games and seeing people. It ended up being just the four of us (Amythyst was able to leave work early and got there around 4ish) hanging out and talking, which was fun.

Of course, today I feel like complete crap. Headache, low energy, general all-around nastiness. I have work today/tonight from 4-9. So don't expect a Doctor Who review tonight. (Have no fear Lystra and LordAvon, the VCR is already set to tape. I'm pretty psyched; this is the first part of a two parter taking place in London during the Blitz.)

And, of course, we have no food in the house. So if I want to have lunch (or something to take with me for dinner), I have to go out and get it. But now I'm just whinging, so I'll stop. More later, maybe, when I'm bored at work...
So I'm bored at work, very bored. Just under an hour to go, all alone and nothing to do bored. So what do I do? I try to think of something odd or interesting to google, of course.

So I googled "Excalibur Hampshire College,"* expecting to find a lot of dead links. (Last I'd heard, it was pretty dead in the water as of 2001.) And, amazingly, I find an archive of internal mailing list posts from as recently as May 2005 that shows a club that seems to be vibrant! They're still showing movies, though in FPH now, along with episodes of TV series. (They apparently just wrapped up a run of "The Prisoner.") What's even more amazing is they have a tradition of a once a semester roleplaying (D&D!) tournament, open to all! They call it "Deathmatch," but it sounds like it's basically our old Ravenloft with a funny hat.

Essentially, everything we did seems to have been either carried over or revived somehow. The e-mails were sent out by what I assume is the club contact; I'm seriously considering e-mailing the guy and saying hi from the Old Guard, maybe telling him a little history. :-) In case you're interested, Excalibur's page is here. Looks like Hampshire's really gone to e-mail listservs for getting club info out...

Needless to say, this comes as a pleasant surprise...

*=for those few of you who may not know, Excalibur, while not founded by me and my Hampshire compadres, was basically revived from the dead, given a new face and mission and essentially made into a whole new club. (As I understand it, before us it had just been a few guys who got together to play games in the mid '80s or something.) It was--and apparently is--Hampshire College's SF/F/Gaming club. Neat!
