And so we come to the second of three two-parters this season. Interesting thing about this story is that the name of the second episode was released/decided upon months before that of the first, which leads me to believe that the original title to the story as a whole is that of episode two--see below!

More than most, this is a very difficult episode to talk about. As silly trivial people such as myself know, two 45 minute episodes actually equal the running time of a four-parter in the old series. Most of the continued shows have felt like they were structured as, well, two distinct episodes. "The Impossible Planet," though, feels to me like...well, the first two parts of a serial, with the rising and falling action one would expect. Thus, unlike other stories, we really feel like we're in the middle of action, rather than at a breaking point. Does that make sense to anyone else? At any rate, it makes discussing most of the merits of this particular episode very difficult. The short version, it was weird, but I liked it. Though my feelings might change after next week....

But for now, let me bring you spoilers from the wood/to make you feel much better than you could know.... )

Next week, part two of Matt Jones's story--episode 9, "The Satan Pit." I can't wait! Let's hope they don't let me down....
