Hoo boy, was this hard! There was a ridiculous amount of footage from 1972 up on YouTube, a lot of it really good. There was a lot of really good music out there that year, from Led Zep to Yes to the Stones' infamous '72 tour (Altamont, anyone?) to....well, YouTube has a lot up there--including the complete footage, broken into parts, of one of my favorite concert films of all time, which came out in 1972. A no-prize to whoever guesses that one!

I've literally spent hours looking around, trying to find a great clip, and there are a lot of them. Some of the many great ones that didn't make the cut include a fantastic version of Genesis' "Musical Box," some Alice Cooper (it's fun to watch) and, alas, footage from Tull's "Thick as a Brick" tour, which is way too fuzzy and grainy to watch. In the end, I've decided on a version of "Oh, You Pretty Things!" by David Bowie, backed by the Spiders. The song was originally released in '71, but the performance is from '72.

On the other hand, maybe I should have just gone for a ride On The Subway!!
