Ok, something's wrong with me.
Mar. 25th, 2007 12:36 amSo, I'm trying to stay up so Amythyst can fall asleep more easily--she has to be at work at 7 this morning--and I'm watching TV to sort of kill time. Around 11, I notice there's really nothing on that I'm interested in. (I tried watching "MadTV," which I haven't bothered with since its early seasons, and only got about a minute in before I had to change the channel.) So I'm flipping around and I land on CBC where they are showing the Women's Curling World Final between Canada and Denmark, live from Japan. At first, I was watching out of that ironic American attitude towards the very strange sport--also because (I'm ashamed to admit) some of the women are cute and it's fun to watch them step/skate over the ice. Then I got more interested and was watching to try and figure out what the hell the rules are, and started looking them up on the web. (I'm still not entirely sure I understand it fully, but I think I get the gist.) Then, I started to get excited when a team made a good throw and discovered I was rooting for the Canadian women. (Though I liked the Danes too.) I actually really started watching and cheering (quietly). As far as I could tell, it was a really well-played game. And I was absolutely touched by how casual and relaxed the game and the competition is--the teams help each other out to an extent and really seem to like each other. When the Danes resigned the game (they were 4 points behind going into the final end), they did so by simply going up to the other team, all smiles, and shaking the hands of the Canadian team.
God help me, I really enjoyed watching curling. What the heck is wrong with me?
admittedly, not sure I'd be as interested in men's curling, which, I'd bet, is a lot more intense and competitive....
