Every so often, no matter how great an ensemble cast may be, a script can live or die on the strength of one actor. This week's Doctor Who episode is utterly dependent on the acting chops of former League of Gentlemen member and Doctor Who scriptwriting alumnus Mark Gatiss. And he pulls it off beautifully.

Not to say it was a perfect episode, by no means. At times it felt like there needed to be a bit more, well, there there. Of course, it's always down to the forty-five minute requirement, which does (I will fully admit) lead to tighter scripts and stories (no "get captured, escape, get captured, escape, repeat"), but sometime they feel a little less satisfying than the two-parters. But for what it was, with the forty-five minute requirement, it was a pretty good story, with a few problems.

I'm not sure I have much to say, but I think it's still time for that ol' spoiler space. )

Next week! Um, the Eurovision Song Contest! Yes, Doctor Who has been bumped for the week, but will return on May 19th! Off Earth again, finally! It's "42" by Chris Chibnall!
