Well, the relatively good news (assuming you liked at least some of what they did with the Lord of the Rings) is that
Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh will be exec producing a movie version of the Hobbit. No word on who will direct. The
confusing part is that they're apparently splitting the book into
two films, to be made simultaneously, as LoTR was/were. Now, on the one hand, that's good, since it means they should be able to get
everything in there. (Fun as the Rankin Bass tv movie was, I missed Beorn, for example.) The bad news is....two movies? Is it just New Line saying, "Crap, the Golden Compass is tanking--we need a new fantasy franchise, STAT"? (Note that I haven't seen TGC yet, so my assessment is based solely on its financial success.)
So, ok, here's your question for today: Where in the world would
you split the (honestly not all that long) book? Where should the first movie end and the second begin? For the purposes of this little game, we will assume:
a. spoilers for the book, duh
b. the movie will be a fairly straight translation. (No "Aragorn battles a silly looking Warg and gets left in the river for dead" crap here.)
So, where would you split the book? No worries if you don't know it backwards and forwards, it's not like there'll be any prizes for answers. What do you, the viewers at home, think???
