My Star Trek film theory

So, the big thing for fans with the upcoming Trek "reboot" has been the seeming major continuity issues. I've now seen the extended trailer thing twice (once yesterday in front of "Watchmen" and now tonight during "Heroes"), I have a theory. If I'm right, I don't think it's exactly a reboot and I don't think there are actual continuity issues. Why?
