reports that Dave Arneson, co-creator of D&D, passed away last night at the age of 61.
I'm sitting here, wondering what to say. Without Dave, would role playing games exist? He was the one, after all, who came up with the idea...Sure, Gary Gygax had come up with "Chainmail," but it was Dave who devised dungeon crawls, the idea of PC advancement and character-building, etc., etc. I think it's no hyperbole to say that Dave had a huge effect on our little corners of the world.
I didn't know him personally, but I still feel like I've lost a friend. With him and Gary both gone....I'm glad I'm playing D&D this weekend.
Thanks, Dave.
