Ok, first of all, "Hide" is a terrible name for this episode. Just not representative of the episode at all. I doubt we have Neil Cross to blame for it though, often the names are changed and/or set by the production team. Still, it sounds like a working title.

So, this is Cross' second script to air this year, though it was the first one written and filmed, and I'm not sure how well it works. As with last week, there were parts that worked wonderfully well, and parts that didn't. And, as with "The Rings of Akhaten" (his second script/first aired), there's an attempt at a unifying theme...but it doesn't work so well here, mainly because so much else is thrown out there that...well, anyway, I'll spoiler-cut now )

NEXT WEEK: Ok, this looks like fun. The TARDIS. Clara. Trapped. Salvage? Journey--Danger? It's "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS" by Stephen Thompson!

So, today was Record Store Day, a day when limited edition/new/reissued records are released to stores to celebrate, well, the record stores that survive. I was fairly excited, as there were a few things coming out I really wanted to get. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the store (45 minutes after they opened!), all but one of the singles I'd planned to get were sold out. This did not stop me from spending more on records than I ever have at one time. And, one might remember, I'm certainly old enough to have been buying records as a primary source of music back in the day! Anyway, the sold out singles that I didn't get were a new thing by Billy Bragg (apparently a limited edition; the store only got two in), an album track by Richard Thompson (even more limited, they only got one, but it wasn't anything I don't have on CD) and a reissue of Jimi Hendrix' first single ("Hey Joe"), in its original mono mix. Ok, so that's what I didn't get. What did I get?

Reissues:
"See Emily Play" b/w "The Scarecrow" 45 by the Pink Floyd (reissue originally from 1967, pink vinyl)
"The Animals is Here" EP by the Animals (first release in decades, in original mono mix, 1964)
"The Animals are Back" EP (again, mono, from 1965)
"Distinctive Rhythm Instrumentals" by the Dave Brubeck Trio (there's no date on it, but research tells me the recordings are circa 1948-49, clear red vinyl, and AMAZING)
"The Cal Tjander Trio" by, er, the Cal Tjander Trio (the percussionist who worked with Brubeck among others, reissue from 1953, orange vinyl. Haven't listened to this one yet!)

And two used records:
"Moat on the Ledge" by Fairport Convention (recording of their 1981 reunion concert, with Richard Thompson, very out of print)
"The Lady and the Unicorn" by John Renbourn (I have literally wanted this album for 20 years, and I found it used and still sealed)

And I didn't buy a bunch of records I wanted, like the reissue of the Nick Drake collection, a box set of Creem's 1968 Albert Hall concert (5 records, about $89!), an early Rolling Stones EP (that I should have bought, it was only $6, kicking myself)...a bunch of stuff. But records ain't cheap anymore, if they're not used, and the stuff I did buy cost me a lot of pretty pennies. And yes, I bought reissues, not new music, because I am sad that way. I know I should listen to more new music, but...well...vinyl's pricey. I do wish I'd been able to get that new Billy Bragg single though. (And I should have bought that Mumford & Sons live EP for my lovely wife...I have, at best, only a vague idea of who they are, but she likes them.)

Anyway, did anyone else hit a record store today? Any thoughts?
