As you might have noticed, this review is very late. I've had a bit of a rough week of it; not all bad, but all enough to keep me from having the couple hours blocked out to watch and review this episode. My apologies for that. I've also been led to understand (having seen one sentence of an e-mail) that not all of you liked this episode. At all. So, I went in wondering how I was going to feel.

This is the finest Cybermen story of the new series. It actually might be the finest one since "Earthshock." Yes, some of it was a bit on the silly side, and yes, at least one plot point was pretty obvious. But it was a well constructed Cyber-story with an extremely old school "base under siege" vibe, while still maintaining a new feel--that worked better than last week.

I'll elaborate in a bit, but I just wanted to add that the "spoiler" I thought I saw appeared to have nothing to do with this episode. It might have been either an extrapolation from the "next time" trailer or, perhaps, based on an actual leak about this weekend's episode, I don't know. But I was very pleased not to have been spoiled. (Is that even grammatically correct? Whatever.)

Ok, here's the spoiler space )

NEXT WEEK (well, ok, in three days): I...I really have no idea, to be honest. The Paternoster Gang is back, we might see other old friends and/or enemies, and it's being billed as a big climax to...a series that hasn't felt like it was building to a big climax. Hmm. I guess we'll see! It's "The Name of the Doctor" by Steven Moffat! (And don't get me started on that idea...)
