So I finished "Deathly Hallows" last night. Livejournal was actually back up before I finished it (I'm told), but I didn't feel the need to get out of bed to post. Heh.

So yeah, I did like it. I think it was too long, meandered a lot more than it needed to, had a few plot holes and inexplicable leaps of logic, but the ending was good. And it confirmed a lot of my thinking going in to the book, which made me feel all smart and stuff. (It also confirmed--for me--that filmmakers made a mistake in leaving a conversation out of the "Order of the Phoenix" film, but they can just mention it in the next one.)

And now that Rowling has confirmed she's working on a companion "encyclopedia" type book, those plot holes and things will hopefully wind up being explained a bit better--as will the stuff she alludes to but doesn't explain at a certain point. (Those of you who read the book will know what I mean.)

So yeah, ultimately I'm glad I took a few days to read the thing rather than reading it all at once. It gave me the leisure to consider and think and mull--some of which was necessary as I had to remind myself of various plot points from previous books in the series! (Also, it meant I was never up until all hours reading, which is better for my health.) I didn't have any problems avoiding spoilers. And, you know, when I got to the last page, I didn't feel at all sad that the series was over. Jo Rowling wrapped it up in, as one review put it, the only way she could have...and it's done. (Minus, as I've said, this forthcoming--at some point--encyclopedia thing.) The series had flaws, but it was fun.

So, no spoilers here. Might be in any comments, though, so think twice before clicking.
