Ok, I'm going to start by saying that I do wish I hadn't stumbled across the big spoiler in this episode. So in the interest of letting LordAvon and MsCongeniality discover the surprise for themselves, I'm going to be verrrrrrry careful.

So this is the big Game Show episode, which Davies says he'd wanted to make from the beginning. The Doctor and company find themselves mysteriously transmatted into game shows that are much less innocent than they appear. It's 100 years after "The Long Game" and something has gone terribly wrong. And who--or what--is behind Bad Wolf? (By the way, flashbacks here gave me the answer to my earlier question; "Bad Wolf" is mentioned in "The Unquiet Dead," "Dalek" and, of course, last week's "Boomtown." Given that yet another "missing adventure" happened between last week and this--in Medieval Japan, apparently--it's possible that Doctor and Rose have seen the words elsewhere as well.)

This was the episode that began the BBC's smoke screen, where they didn't release episode titles, gave out fake spoilers (including, apparently, fake scripts and even stills), etc. I think this makes it extraordinarily difficult to talk about until people have seen it....even though it's fun when you already know the surprises, I'd really like to make sure people can see it cold. (Like an M. Night Shamalamdingdong movie.) ;-) LA and MsC, I'll get you the tapes as soon as I can.

What I will say is that it took a little while to get going for me, as I'm not a big fan of reality shows and do not understand the UK's obsession with Big Brother. But it did pick up very quickly and was very engaging. In some parts, it was a very non-Doctor Whoish episode, but in others it was spot on. (Jack's bits were amusing but sometimes seemed a bit out of place. He has the funniest line of the entire thing, but it's not something I'd ever think of as "Doctor Who.") If nothing else, I'm on the edge of my seat for next week's big conclusion.....

"The Parting of the Ways" by Russell T. Davies, one week from tonight! And then....the big wait until Christmas........

Nick at Nite is celebrating their 20th anniversary by showing lineups of the major networks from 1985. Tonight is Tuesdays on ABC--Who's the Boss, Growing Pains and.....Moonlighting!

Not only are they showing an episode of Moonlighting, but they're showing the best episode of Moonlighting--"Atomic Shakespeare!" (Wherein the cast do their...version of "Taming of the Shrew.") I really, really wish I'd known beforehand so I could have gotten a tape ready. I actually had this episode on tape way back when, but I watched it (and the first season of Blackadder which was also on there) so many times, I wore it out.

I'd forgotten how much actual Shakespeare is in it and man, is it funny.

Now excuse me. I have to watch David Addison (Bruce Willis) sing "Good Lovin'" at Petruccio and Katarina's wedding now....
