Well, that was a bit of silliness, wasn't it?
In a lot of ways, that works to this episode's advantage, the silly bits being well, silly. But in other ways...look, I enjoyed myself. There were even a few undeniably clever bits. But this episode was tonally all over the place. Sometimes that works, a fine example being "City of Death" by the late, great Douglas Adams, which combined silliness and darkness pretty much perfectly. But, in lesser hands, you run the risk of getting a bit of a mess. This episode wasn't a mess, not quite, but it certainly nearly veered that way, careening back and forth. If I were being unkind, I'd say something like, "in other words, a Chris Chibnall script," but...oh, look, I guess I did say it.
Still, it was certainly enjoyable to watch and there were a few (as I said) clever bits. At best, though, this was a lightweight, probably eminently forgettable episode, which certainly isn't a cardinal sin. It wasn't terrible, it wasn't great, but it was...okay. There were some...problems, but...well...
