LSH episode one--I saw it!

Yes, I overslept. By quite a lot. Thankfully, my VCR worked just fine and I just a few minutes ago finished watching the first episode of the Legion cartoon, "Man of Tomorrow."
Short form, I loved it!
Slightly more commentary (not much time!) below the cut.
Sure, I have quibbles. Most of the Fatal Five were cyphers and Emerald Empress as the leader? I understand why, I guess, but it does rob Tharok of a lot of his, um, raison d'etre. Still, given their role, the 5 couldn't help but be cyphers here. One would hope on return bouts (or, even better, individual appearances by the villains), we'll get more.
The voice acting was pretty wonderful, for the most part. Saraya seemed a little too young, but I went with that. The Legionnaire's voices worked. And the guy playing Clark? Fantastic.
The character designs....I'm still not hot on. Still, they look better in action than static on the page. I'm not sure they'll grow on me, but they're definitely not show-killers. And yes, Brainy as a robot was...again, I understand why they did it (at this point, explaining the backstory would be slightly nightmarish), and it wasn't terrible, but....well, le sigh. Still, worked in context.
I think, most importantly, the production team got the world right. It looked like the 30th/31st century we know and love--or, rather, a combination of various bits of what we know. I mean, the random aliens walking around? Looked familiar. The architecture, everything, looked like it should. I caught a small amount of Interlac around...and in the credits, they show the old symbols from the message board! (I cheered when I saw that!)
Ultimately the feel was right. This FELT like the Legion, even if not everything matched up with the comics as I know them. Unlike the immensely unlikable Fantastic Four cartoon that started a few weeks ago, I came away excited. Can't wait until next week! :-)
Next week: "Timber Wolf!"

Re: oh, hey, i saw part of that F4 cartoon
Date: 2006-09-24 07:19 am (UTC)I think the LSH might be even better for him, though. A more colorful animation pallette, lots of bouncing around, etc. etc. (And you might enjoy it too, even. Certainly more than Dora and Diego...)

Date: 2006-09-24 12:51 pm (UTC)Even from the little bit I saw, it definitely has the right feel. And if it can please a fan of the old Legion and the new Legion at the same time, that'll be a pretty impressive feat!
